If there’s one product that acts as a grant-your-hair-wishes genie-in-a-bottle, it’s Olaplex. I’ve been using it in my salon since 2014 and this bond-builder is not called a hair perfector for nothing. Different than a moisture or deep-conditioning treatment, Olaplex repairs your hair’s damaged disulfide bonds and strengthens your hair from the inside out. That strength shows up as better shine and bounce, a spring in your curl pattern, and a difference in frizz that you can see in the mirror!
What is the Olaplex treatment?
Olaplex is a bond multiplier containing a single active ingredient, Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate. Olaplex works by finding single sulfur hydrogen bonds and cross linking them back together to form disulfide bonds before, during and after services. Disulfide bonds are broken via chemical, thermal, and mechanical processes. Olaplex is free of silicone, sulfates, phthalates, DEA, aldehydes, and is never tested on animals.
What does Olaplex do?
It is meant to protect your hair during any highlight, or color treatment. It will also add shine and make your color last longer. Hair color adheres to the bonds in your hair and Olaplex is a bond builder, so there will be more bonds for the color to hold on to.
Is Olaplex good for curly hair?
Yes, the Olaplex treatment leaves the curls lighter, fuller and a stronger curl pattern on most hair. Tighter fractal, coily, 4c or 4b curls experience a much smoother more compact curl but not necessarily shrinkage. Overall it makes curls easier to style. Swavy and Wavy curls will LOVE this on their curls too, especially since we are an often overlooked segment in the curl world.
How to use Olaplex on curly hair
Olaplex is a 3 step treatment. Steps 1 and 2 are performed in the salon, 3rd step is purchased and used at home to help keep up the benefits of the original treatment. For optimal results, you should use BOTH salon and home components. Each is particularly formulated to play a different part in the beautification of your curls! Overly compromised hair can have multiple treatments in one day or weekly.
This is a treatment that can NOT be overdone – the effects last about 4 weeks on most heads, then the hair bonds revert back to their original state. People with fragile hair, curls or straight, that have trouble growing length will benefit from the treatment, because the bonds recreated by Olaplex are stronger than the ones before.
We offer in-salon Steps 1 and 2 (these are much stronger than the take-home treatment, but can be done as often as every appointment), as well as take-home bottles of Step 3 in various sizes (for weekly maintenance).
Can Olaplex actually restore curls?
Not exactly. It will help those straight end pieces of curls caused from heat damage, keratin treatments or other abuse – Olaplex can bring a bit more curl life into those pieces of hair, making the transition grow out a bit less painful. But even my clients with virgin curls experience firmer, bouncier and shinier curls with Olaplex.
Does Olaplex help hair grow?
Olaplex will not make your hair grow but it will help protect and keep the hair you have stronger allowing the hair you have to not break as easily and reach lengths you have always had trouble reaching before!
You should keep in mind that Olaplex is NOT a protein or moisturizing treatment, only a bond builder. You need to address protein and moisture separately – which is why in this salon we integrate Olaplex in other treatments. Saving time and pampering your curls all at once!
