That means we actively recycle and repurpose up to 95% of our salon’s beauty waste, including hair clippings, used foils, color tubes, excess hair color and more. But we’re not stopping there. We want to keep pushing the boundaries of “green.” Here’s 7 ways your favorite curly hair salon in Pittsburgh is pushing those green boundaries:
We’ve updated our lighting
All of our lighting, including our outside lighting, is updated to energy efficient LED. Our outside lights are even on timers to minimize waste. The majority of our interior lights are motion activated, so light magically happens when we swish through, and go dark when the room is empty. Bonus: No one has to touch a light switch and then wash their hands!
We recycle everything we can
Our sustainability certification means we recycle and repurpose up to 95% of our salon waste, including hair clippings, used foils, color tubes, excess hair color and more. By the way, Pennsylvania businesses aren’t required to recycle, but we’ve made arrangements so we can.
Our product lines are as organic as they can be
We use predominantly organic and better-for-your-hair products in our salon. You won’t walk into a chemical cesspool upon your grand arrival.
We keep our air as clean as we can
Fresh, circulated air has never been more important. Our ducts are maintained and cleaned regularly, air filters switched out routinely and we take advantage of Mother Nature’s climate control, keeping windows and doors open whenever possible. (Who doesn’t love a gentle breeze through their curls?)
We love germ killers!
Our Covid-19 state-approved cleaner is hydrogen peroxide-based. It has a 1-minute kill time, plus it’s environmentally friendly, gentle on us and doesn’t smell like fake lemons.
Adios, paper products
Hand washing is now a way of life, so our bathroom is stocked with washcloths and towels for drying. Nothing hits the garbage but everything hits the washer and dryer. In full transparency, we have a 20-year old beast of a dryer that our maintenance guy insists is better than those fancy ones that end up in the landfill when their seven year shelf life is over.
Spot Climate Control
Yeah, it’s an old, gorgeous building. So we spot heat and cool, rather than chilling – or heating – the whole place up. That is such a waste of energy. We’re in the process of replacing our old windows, too, so that cool air – or warmth – literally doesn’t go out the window.
