FAQ
Preparing for an Appointment
Two weeks ahead of your first appointment, we ask that you stop using any products with silicones, butters or oils in them (including coconut oil), as well as petroleum and lanolin. So if you use Shea Moisture, Cantu, Camille Rose, Lus, Curlsmith, Moroccan Oil hair products, Pantene, etc, please perform an at home detox 3-4 times to remove the buildup that is likely there. These products tend to excessively coat the hair and mask your curls’ spring factor. We recommend Mailbu Un-Do-Goo or Innersense Organic Beauty Detox Hair Mask as clarifiers. We sell them in salon or you can call to order!
You want the best curly haircut possible, right? Yes, you are coming into the salon to learn how to care for your curls, but we still have to see your curls styled to the best of your ability. We ask that both our existing and new clients arrive ready to thrive. That means: 100% dry hair, within one day of being washed and styled with products to enhance the curl. Do not wear bobby pins, ponytails, headbands, rubber bands, hats, clips or anything else that will leave dents, marks or change your curl pattern in any way. Excessive snarls, product buildup or hair that has been styled to alter or stretch out the curl pattern may require an additional pre-service, or may be re-booked for a later appointment.

Salon Policies
We are a mighty micro business, which is why we have a stringent 48 hour cancellation policy. We try to make it as easy as possible for you to remember your appointments, so we send out confirmations at the time of booking, one week before your appointment and again three days before your appointment.
Therefore, if you do not show up for your appointment, or cancel the day of your appointment, we charge 100% of the service. If you cancel the day before your appointment, we charge 50% of the service. The fee will be charged on the credit card you provided upon booking your appointment (that card is stored on our secure system). If for some reason that fee does not go through on the credit card provided at the time of booking, you will be sent an invoice and be expected to pay within 72 hours.
Venmo, cash and checks are preferred but all major credit/debit cards are gladly accepted, including American Express. And yes! You can add a tip to your service in any form. You can find Kelly on Venmo at @kelly-anker.
Yes! We’re a gender neutral salon. That means we charge by your hair and your service, not your gender or identity. No matter how you roar, we welcome you.
We’re also proudly part of Strands for Trans, a global network of hair, beauty and wellness orgs that seek to create and inspire safe and positive experiences for all guests, especially guests from the trans community.
We do and always have. There’s also a bit of a “thang” going on in there. When you visit, let us know if you catch it!
As we’re focused on getting your mind, body and scalp healthy, we’ve pulled back on traditional highlight services. Our artistic background means we love, love love playing with color palettes so we’d love to talk to you about grey coverage, color balancing, toning and root touchups, though. By the way, we use demi permanent, single process formulas that are much better for your curls.
We love helping parents and children embrace their curly hair! Children are welcome if they have an appointment, otherwise please leave them at home to enjoy playtime. The hands-on learning experience requires your full attention as well as your stylist. Adhering to this policy makes certain everyone, including you and other customers of Kindred Curl, receive the most from their Custom Curly Haircut appointment.
It’s where we juice your curls! Seriously, though, it’s where you get your Curl Lessons and learn life changing techniques to love the curls you’re with.
