Olaplex

I taught at the Curly Hair Artistry fall 2015 Symposium.
I taught about the benefits of Olaplex for curly hair to my fellow professional stylists!

I am now going to tell you a bit about Olaplex and share with you some of the benefits I have found after using Olaplex in my salon since it’s release about a year ago.

“Olaplex is a bond multiplier containing a single active ingredient, Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate. Olaplex works by finding single sulfur hydrogen bonds and cross linking them back together to form disulfide bonds before, during and after services. Disulfide bonds are broken via chemical, thermal, and mechanical processes.

Olaplex is the only product of its kind with 8 worldwide patents publishing soon. Olaplex is free of silicone, sulfates, phthalates, DEA, aldehydes, and is never tested on animals.”- Olaplex website

Olaplex is a 3 step treatment. Steps 1 and 2 are performed in the salon, 3rd step is sold to the consumer to be used at home to help keep up the benefits of the original treatment. Olaplex treatment will last on an average head about 4 weeks. Overly compromised hair can have multiple treatments in one day or weekly.

Olaplex is a bond builder, hair is made of disulfide bonds. Olaplex repairs them and the bonds that are recreated are stronger than the ones before. Olaplex can NOT be over done. The bonds will top out and

The treatment leaves the curls lighter, fuller and a stronger curl pattern on most hair. Tighter fractal, coily, 4c or 4b curls experience a much smoother more compact curl but not necessarily shrinkage. Overall it makes curls easier to style. Swavy and Wavy curls will LOVE this on their curls too, we are an often overlooked segment in the curl world.

The effects of the treatment seem to last about 4 weeks for most, then the bonds revert back to their original state.

It will help those straight end pieces of curls caused from heat damage, keratin treatments or other abuse, Olaplex can bring a bit more curl life into those pieces of hair. Making the transition grow out a bit less painful.

It is meant to protect your hair during any highlight, or color treatment. It will also make your color last longer. Hair color adheres to the bonds in your hair, if you have more bonds there is more bonds for the color to hold on to.

People with fragile hair, curls or straight that have trouble growing length, Olaplex will help. Olaplex will not make your hair grow but it will help protect and keep the hair you have stronger allowing the hair you have to not break as easily and reach lengths you have always had trouble reaching before!

Olaplex adds shine.

It is NOT a protein or moisturizing treatment, only  a bond builder. You need to address Protein and moisture separately. Although in salon you can add on a moisturizing or protein treatment to your Olaplex treatment. Saving time and pampering your curls all at once!

Even my clients with virgin curls experience firmer, bouncier and shinier curls with Olaplex.
